JAWBREAKER is a ZBrush project I worked on to practice sculpting. I also wanted to improve my lighting and presentation skills in my renderings.
The original character design is from Cécile de Gantès.
THE PROCESS
I used a low poly base mesh and adjusted the base shapes to the character. I've made sure to use the right proportions before I started any details.
Even though it was not required, I still wanted a clean topology to maximize efficiency in case I wanted to texture it in the future. Clean topology also helps with sculpting along the forms and edges of the mesh, for example I used it for the thigh edges on the body suit.
Since the character is rather edgy, I thought it was stylistically better to keep it a little blocky and lowpoly and add some slight edges instead of making detailed hair and single strands. I placed the hair onto the base mesh with a hair brush and later dynameshed them together.
For the posing I used several tools (Transpose Master, Transform Tools etc.) to move the meshes. It was my first time to pose a character in ZBrush so I actually spent a lot of time to put her into the right position since it is the very dynamic posing that really brings the character to life.
After some final detailing and posing corrections, here is the final sculpting in ZBrush!
